Simmy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin? I started this business in 2018. It is registered as simmydesigns and is an e-commerce business. Initially, I started selling products on Instagram and Facebook. Being a mother of two kids, it was a kind of part-time work, but during the covid lockdown, my husband helped me in taking care of the kids, so in that way, I started dedicating more time to my business.
From the very first day, my goal is to provide the best quality and customer service at affordable prices. I took the initiative of going live on Facebook and Instagram.
Where I show my products. All my clients and followers love the way I show the products during live shows, got so much positive feedback and that really set the stage for me to look for ways to grow the business. My page gets promoted by word of mouth from our clients, collaboration with various artists, advertisement, etc. As the customer base grew, it is hard for me take individual orders over the phone and for that I myself created my website simmydesigns.com.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story - has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome? Starting a new business from scratch is always full of challenges. There are already bigger sharks in the same profession and you have to make strategic plans and execute them in a way that you made your presence felt in the industry. Same way, in the beginning I struggled a lot in choosing supply base that could provide quality product, which is the biggest challenge in this industry. Then making sure your sellings margins are appropriate, making clients happy and around the clock customer service. The biggest factor that comes into play is customer satisfaction by providing quality services and we stick to that 100%.
Eventually, we get recognition and our customer base grew exponentially. At one point, I was working day and night and exhausted myself to the extent that I got sick. I was hospitalized and was away from my kids, my family and my work for 2 months. During that time we (myself and my husband) decided that we need to balance the things and spend time for family and ourselves. Today I am still working but not compromising my health and family. But one thing is for sure, doing business is full of challenges and you have to be up to date, otherwise, you will be left behind.
